First African Landing Commemoration Concert

The City of Hampton invites you to the First African Landing Commemoration Concert featuring Common and Sounds of Blackness. This is just one of many activities being held in Hampton, VA August 23-25, 2019 to recognize the 400th anniversary of the 1619 first landing of Africans in English North America at Point Comfort, site of Fort Monroe in Hampton. Tickets are free to the public with a limit of 4 tickets per household. Everyone must have a ticket. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 24 at 12:00pm. Tickets are available at Hampton Coliseum Box Office, The American Theatre Box Office, and online at www.ticketmaster.com (fees apply). Tickets available while supplies last.

 

Seating for the First African Landing Commemoration Concert is on a first-come, first-served basis for those with general admission tickets. For safety reasons, saving seats cannot be permitted.

Sounds of Blackness is a Grammy Award-winning vocal and instrumental ensemble from Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota who perform music from several genres music including gospel, R&B, soul, and jazz. The group scored several hits on the Billboard R&B chart and Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in the 1990s. Cynthia Johnson of Lipps Inc. fame and Grammy winner Ann Nesby are the group's most prominent alumni.
